We have all heard the adage, “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise!” A study whose findings were reported at the American College of Cardiology’s 58th Annual Scientific Sessions, March 30, 2009 in Orlando, FL adds validity to this old proverb. Yu Misao, MD, of the Misao Health Clinic in Gifu, Japan reported that men who went to bed after midnight had more arterial stiffening, an early form of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, which leads to heart attacks. Several large studies have linked chronic sleep loss to, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other health problems, but this is the first to link bedtime to heart disease. So why not follow the Bible instructions found in Psalms 127:2, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.” So get to bed early, for better health!
